Why You Should Consider Engineered Wood Flooring For Your Home

Engineered Wood Flooring

If you are considering laying a new floor in your home, or perhaps building a new home from scratch, then you have many different options. One of the favourite choices for many people is wood flooring because of the incredible graining and colours that you can get in a natural wood floor.

However, natural wood flooring, which is constructed of planks cut straight from trees, has certain disadvantages, despite the beauty of it. This is why today many homeowners are opting for engineered wood instead. This uses real wood on what is known as the wear layer, which is the top layer that you see and walk on, but which is fitted on top of more than one layer of solid timber.

Furthermore, right now, at Floor Direct, we are holding our engineered wood flooring sale in the UK, so you could not pick a better time to invest in upgrading the flooring in your home.

It’s a double saving because, not only does engineered wood flooring cost less than hardwood in most cases, but you are also getting a big discount in our January sale.

Walnut And Maple Are Expensive

If you think about it, the cost of engineered wood flooring is obvious. If you have a solid hardwood floor of, say, maple or walnut, then these are expensive timbers. Engineered wood flooring is made of several layers of wood, but only the top layer is maple or walnut or whatever. The under-layers, or core layers, are made of sheets of plywood that are set at right angles to each other and are a lot less expensive than the wear layer.

This has another big advantage because engineered wood flooring is far less likely to warp or twist because of the way the plywood is facing at different angles.

What this also means is that you can use engineered wood flooring in areas that are likely to suffer from humidity and higher temperatures such as kitchens and bathrooms. Not only that but engineered wood can be used in conjunction with underfloor heating which is becoming the popular way to heat homes now rather than using a radiator system. There are many benefits to underfloor heating, not the least of which is that it produces even heat across a whole room and also does not require so much energy to achieve the same temperature as a radiator, thus saving on heating bills for evermore.

Engineered wood can also be made into wider boards which saves a lot of time on installation, and again reduces the cost. And, of course, it’s our engineered wood flooring sale in the UK. What could be better?
