Laminate Flooring: Your Questions Answered

Laminate flooring sale

Laminate flooring is in some ways similar to vinyl flooring in that it can come in any sort of pattern, colour, or design that you wish. At Floor Direct in Islington, we have laminate flooring for sale in the UK in a very wide selection of patterns, and if we don’t have what you want in stock, we can get it for you. Furthermore, you cannot buy your new laminate flooring for less anywhere else because we guarantee to beat any competitor’s written quote!

So, you can have laminate flooring that looks like wood, marble, granite, tiles, and so on. Something like real marble is very expensive, of course, but you can have a floor that looks exactly the same for a lot less.

Laminate flooring is also highly durable, depending upon the AC rating. This is as follows:

AC1 – Moderate traffic, so is suitable for bedrooms and guest rooms.

AC2 – Suitable for dining rooms and living rooms.

AC3 – Heavy traffic – hallways, etc.

AC4 – Moderate commercial traffic – small offices, cafes.

AC5 – Heavy commercial traffic – public buildings, department stores etc.

Recommended for bathrooms and kitchens as it is more water-resistant. (Some AC4 laminates also have water-resistance but not all, so you should check).

Underfloor Heating

Another big advantage of laminate flooring is that it can be used in conjunction with underfloor heating, which many homeowners are installing these days because of the serious benefits that it has over and above a radiator system.

Laminate flooring has quite a long lifespan, similar to vinyl in that respect, and will last from 15 – 25 years.

If there is a disadvantage to laminate flooring it is that it cannot be refinished if it suffers from serious damage.

Laminate flooring is also easy to lay, again similar to vinyl in that it comes in tiles that have a locking mechanism around the edges and they click together. So, if you are keen on DIY, you could lay laminate flooring yourself. The recommended option is floating which means that you don’t need to glue it to the substrate. However, if you are laying over concrete or an uneven floor surface, then it is necessary to use an appropriate underlay, which should also include a damp proof membrane when laying on concrete.
