One of the flooring choices that is growing in popularity is wood flooring. Of course, wood for flooring has been around almost forever, certainly as long as buildings have been constructed. But one of the advantages of wood flooring is that you have so many different choices when it comes to style and colour. This is because wood flooring is made from many different types of trees. Indeed, when it comes to natural wood flooring, we can provide you with many different options!
However, while it looks stunning, wood flooring does have certain drawbacks. It can be quite expensive compared to other types of flooring (although it is still well worth it), and, of course, it can suffer from scratches and marks. Not that it is a major problem, because you can simply sand the wood down and repolish it and it will look as good as new.
It Can Expand And Contract
One of the reasons that wood flooring is growing in popularity ever more is that you can now use engineered wood instead. This has certain advantages over and above natural wood. It is made using several layers which produces a floorboard that is extremely strong.
Not only is engineered wood strong, but it can expand and contract. What that means is that you can use it in kitchens and bathrooms where spills and/or dampness can occur, and you can also use it in conjunction with underfloor heating if you wish. Another advantage is that you can have engineered wood that looks like, say, maple, but costs less than the natural maple would.
You can also have it in your choice of style. So, we find that many people choose to have herringbone engineered wood flooring for their home. It somehow looks considerably more impressive than plank flooring. Of course, herringbone engineered wood flooring can also suffer from scuff marks, but as with natural wood flooring it can be sanded down and resurfaced. Another big advantage of engineered wood flooring is that it can last for ages.
